 "Homeward Jerseys - bringing world-class Jersey genetics home" Our herd started in 1989 with the purchase of a single cow GLEN-EDEN SAINTS GOLDILOCKS. The gentle nature of Goldilocks convinced us that Jerseys were the breed we wanted. Today we have a herd of 600 and are still growing. The herd genetics is literally world-class as top-flight AI sires have been used extensively over the years. We have used proven sire semen from the USA, Canada, Denmark, New Zealand, Australia and South Africa. Our aim has always been to create a working cow for a pasture based dairy farm. Profit, as opposed to production, has been our ultimate breeding goal. We place high value on the quality that differentiates Jersey milk from that of all other dairy breeds i.e. high solids. Ideally suited for cheese making, our milk is sold to Oaksprings Dairy where every litre is made into delicious cheeses such as cheddar and mozarella. We milk twice a day in a 30-point swing over herringbone parlour. Our milking machine is supplied and serviced by DeLaval. With the individualised feeding system, parlour management is run on computer using DeLaval's Alpro system. Our overall herd management is done using the DIMSSA package. Looking for a Jersey bull? We raise 12 - 15 registered Jersey bulls each year. They are selected progeny from our best cows who have proven themselves both on production and physical traits. The bulls are all sons of the best imported AI bulls we can find in the world. We sell the bulls when they are between 18 to 24 months.
