How to fasten a rope halter

Step 1: Run the rope end
down through the loop at
the top of the cheekpiece.
Push the loop up the rope
to the appropriate height.
Make sure the rope’s tail
points away from your
horse’s eye.
Step 2: Pass the rope end
behind the loop toward
your horse’s eye, and thread
it over the loop and under
the rope, as shown.  Create a loop if you want to make the excess tidier.
Step 3: Check your work. The
result is a knot that looks like an
X with its tail pointing toward
your horse’s shoulder.
Note that rope halters sometimes
stretch over time, and may
need to be retied or adjusted
after a few months of use.
