 Welcome to Homeward Farming. We are situated on Kruisfontein, outside the town of Mooi River in the province of kwaZulu Natal, South Africa. Kruisfontein is 600 Ha in extent, enjoying 5 kilometres of the Mooi River itself. The Voortrekkers were the first European settlers in the area, shortly after the Battle of Blood River which took place in 1838. They gave the river the name Mooirivier which means Beautiful River. South Africa being multilingual (11 official languages), most place names have a number of alternatives. The English speakers call it Mooi River while the Zulu name is Mpofana which means young Eland. Mpofana is a reference to the Eland which are still to be found in great numbers in the foothills of the Central Drakensberg mountains. It is these mountains that give rise to our truly Mooi River.
